Creating an Accent Feature in Your New Home

Often times people assume that furniture and decor are what gives your home character, and while this is certainly true, wouldn’t it be great to have that same character with or without furniture?  From accent walls to stone fireplaces,  here are several design ideas that will give your home its own personality.

Accent Walls:

Paint is probably the easiest and most inexpensive way to add an accent wall to any space.  A Dining Room is one of the most common places to add this feature, but of course you can create an accent wall in any room in your home!  In our Bedford Farms Model, we chose a bold color for the accent wall, Sherwin Williams Attitude Gray.

Board and Batten detailing is a very popular way to add character to your home, and there are so many different ways to use it!  In our Kensington Forest Model we used board and batten in the Dining Room and the Family Room.

In our Laurel Park Model we used board and batten in the Dining Room, but we made the boards reach almost to the ceiling, whereas in Kensington Forest we kept the boards to halfway up the wall.

Ceiling Details:

Ceilings are the overlooked 5th wall of any room.  It’s like we just forget that the ceiling is a blank canvas and the perfect spot to add character to any space!  Coffered ceilings are the perfect go-to feature to add to any room in your home.  We have added coffered ceilings to family rooms, dining rooms, and even master bathrooms!

Painting the ceiling inside the coffered is a great way to add a pop of color to your room.  Or take the paint one step further and add painted bead board inside your coffered!

Built-Ins:

Instead of worrying if that TV stand will fit or if your dresser is too tall, why not build your furniture instead?  From built-in bench seating to bookshelves and more, having custom pieces built specifically for that space is sure to add personality to your home!

Stone Accents:

What can we say, stone isn’t just for the exterior of your home!  Bringing design pieces from the exterior of your home into the interior is a great way to give your home that overall complete look.  And what better place to add stone then your fireplace.
